The Green Family Backyard Herbals Salves is an easy-to-follow curriculum that blends the stories of the Green Family and hands-on projects to learn how to use everyday herbs and make natural remedies. Follow along with the Green Family as they harvest herbs, infuse them in oil, and prepare the salves. You’ll have complete instructions on how to do this yourself! Learn how to make a basic salve with a single herb...try some of the recipes in the book...or create your own recipes once you feel comfortable with herbs.

To prep for these lessons is very simple! You will need to purchase the herbs and supplies, but that's it.  The lesson is very open-and-go and makes a great unit study on basic herbalism.

The curriculum is broken into 5 lessons.  You can do a whole book in one day (it will take 2 – 3 hours) or break it up into a week-long study or even 5 weeks!

Suggested lesson plan:

• **Lesson 1:** READ the first story section + information through wildcrafting. Identify and harvest herbs from your backyard or a local park. Set herbs to dry.

• **Lesson 2:** READ about carrier oils + supplies needed for salves. Check on drying herbs.

• **Lesson 3:** READ how to make an infused oil. Begin your infused oil with a single herb. (Consider fast infusing if you want to complete this in one week.)

• **Lesson 4: **READ how to make an herbal salve. Strain your oil and make your salve.

• **Lesson 5: **READ salve recipes and herbal vocabulary. Try one of the recipes OR choose an activity from the “extend the learning” section.
