# Stress 101

What's the deal with Stress?

From an evolutionary standpoint, our ability to decide if we need to fight, freeze or run (flight) is what has kept our species going. At a genetic level, there is a mix of stress responses. Some people are ready to fight no matter what the threat; a lion, an army, or a natural disaster. Some are ready to run at the sign of any danger, and then freeze, the ability to hide from a predator. There are lots of us that are a mix of both. In the end, the response is designed to keep us alive.

### Why is stress important?

Our body has a series of mental and physical reactions when we encounter stress. Our response can sometimes be the same no matter what (for example nausea) or it may vary based on the stressor. You may experience some or all of these at different times depending on the stressor and your own bio-individual response.
