DIY Gut Health Infused Oil

August 27th, 2026

Ever feel like your meal sloshes around in an ever-expanding balloon belly after you eat, even when it's healthy food? If so, you are not alone!

Our gut needs more than just good food for clear digestion. But it doesn't have to mean anything fancy or expensive.

Some of the herbs many of us already have in our kitchens can really help things move more smoothly, while bringing a boost of flavor to the table.

This simple infused oil is an easy, tasty way to add digestion-supportive herbs to your meals. Drizzle it over vegetables, salads, pasta, or use it as a flavorful bread dip.

DIY Gut Health Infused Oil

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme

How to Make It

  1. Add all ingredients to a small saucepan.
  2. Warm over low heat for 20–30 minutes. Do not let the oil boil.
  3. Remove from the heat and let cool.
  4. Strain into a clean glass bottle or jar.
  5. Refrigerate and use within one week.

How to Use It

If oil solidifies in the fridge, set it out on the counter for a half hour before meals to liquify.

Drizzle over:

  • Salads
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Grain bowls
  • Pasta
  • Crusty bread

Why You'll Love It

  • Made with simple, wholesome ingredients
  • Easy to prepare in about 30 minutes
  • Adds fresh flavor to everyday meals
  • A delicious way to incorporate traditional digestive herbs into your diet

Tip: For a longer shelf life, use dried instead of fresh rosemary and thyme.

How This Oil Supports Healthy Digestion

Extra virgin olive oil alone is a wonder for gut support. It contains polyphenols that feed healthy digestive bacteria for nutrient absorption; it soothes the gut lining; and helps in moments of bloating and digestive discomfort.

Ginger is a traditional favorite for supporting healthy movement of food through the gut and helping ease gas and bloating.

Fennel seeds are in a bowl at the exit of many Indian restaurants because they have been eaten after meals for centuries to support healthy, comfortable digestion.

Turmeric soothes the gut and helps our bodies break down nutrients more easily.

Rosemary supports gut microbiome balance and helps with gut comfort in times of bloating, gas, and cramping.

Thyme helps ease digestive discomfort and supports nutrient absorption.

Love some of these herbs but not all of them? No worries! This recipe is fully customizable to your tastes—including any of these herbs can help your digestion feel clearer and easier.
