We've all been there—the cold that keeps getting passed around the house, the cough that won't quit, the seasonal ick that gets the whole family down.
The good news is that there are some common kitchen herbs that deeply support our immune and respiratory systems and can help our bodies return to their natural vitality, so we can get back to enjoying our time together and doing what we love.
The great news is we know exactly what's in a remedy when we make it at home with plants, so we can rest assured there's no synthetic medications or ingredients that can end up doing more harm than good.

What You'll Need
- 1 cup organic extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons dried organic oregano leaf
- 1 tablespoon dried organic thyme leaf
- 1 tablespoon dried organic rosemary leaf

How to Make It
- Add the oregano, thyme, and rosemary to a clean, dry glass jar.
- Pour the olive oil over the herbs, ensuring they are completely submerged.
- Seal the jar and place it in a warm, sunny location for 2–4 weeks, gently shaking it every day or two.
OR
Quick Method:
- Warm the oil and herbs in a double boiler over very low heat for 2–3 hours, being careful not to let the oil simmer or boil.
- Strain the oil through cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer into a clean glass bottle, pressing the herbs to extract as much oil as possible.
Optionally: Transfer into tincture dropper bottles to make it easy to measure and use.
Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
How to Use It
Start with just a few drops and notice how you feel. Gradually increase as it feels right for you. Take up to 4 times per day. These are the general age guidelines:
- Ages 2-6 years: 5-10 drops.
- Ages 7-12 years: 10-20 drops.
- Ages 13+ years: 20-30 drops
Tip: Be sure to use completely dried herbs, as fresh herbs can introduce moisture and reduce the shelf life of your infused oil.
Also: We are not going to tell you not to add this to your pasta sauce or bread dipping oil.

FAQ
Can you make oregano oil at home?
Yes--DIY oregano oil is made by steeping dried oregano and other herbs in a carrier oil, such as extra-virgin olive oil, then straining and storing it in a clean glass container.
Is homemade oregano oil the same as oregano essential oil?
No--homemade oregano oil is an herbal-infused oil made with a carrier oil, while oregano essential oil is steam-distilled and much more concentrated. They should not be used interchangeably.
Should I use fresh or dried herbs for infused oregano oil?
Dried herbs are best for infused oils because they contain less moisture, which helps support a longer shelf life and reduces the chance of spoilage.
How long does DIY oregano oil last?
When made with fully dried herbs and stored in a cool, dark place, homemade oregano oil can last up to 6 months. Discard it sooner if you notice cloudiness, mold, an off smell, or any signs of spoilage.
How do you use herbal-infused oregano oil?
Start with a small amount and increase gradually as desired. It can be taken by the drop as part of a wellness routine or used in food, such as pasta sauce, salad dressing, or bread dipping oil.
