DIY Body Butter
Have you ever slathered yourself in lotion, only to find that two hours later, your skin is begging for more moisture?
We know the feeling. And that's why we did the research, experimented on our own skin, and created something so much better.
The sad fact is that most lotions out there not only don't have what it takes to truly hydrate our skin, but many of them contain synthetic ingredients that actually dry your skin out and can lead to a whole laundry list of health problems.
We have found that what our skin really loves is natural, nourishing oils whipped into a luscious butter that absorbs easily and lets our skin breathe while supporting the barrier that holds moisture in. And it's easy to make your own with just a few simple ingredients.
What You'll Need:
- Glass jar or container
- ½ cup coconut oil
- ½ cup cocoa butter
- ½ cup shea butter
- ¼ cup vitamin E
- Optional: 15 drops of lavender essential oil
How to Make It:
Step 1: Fill a pan halfway up with water.
Step 2: Gently heat the water on medium.
Step 3: Add coconut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, and vitamin E oil to a glass bowl.
Step 4: Place the glass bowl in the pan on the stove, creating a double boiler.
Step 5: Stir ingredients and allow a few minutes to melt and mix together.
Step 6: Once the ingredients have melted, remove the glass bowl from the pan and place it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Step 7: Remove from the refrigerator and add lavender drops to the ingredients.
Step 8: Mix (whip) together with a mixer until light, fluffy, and creamy.
Step 9: Scrape whipped body butter into a clean glass container with a rubber scraper and store in a cool, dry place. Mark the date. Body butter typically lasts about one year or sometimes even longer.
How This Body Butter Supports Happy, Hydrated Skin
Coconut oil is high in fatty acids that deeply moisturize, support the skin barrier, and soothe dry or cracked skin.
Cocoa butter is treasured in natural skin care for intensely moisturizing dry and aging skin, calming irritation, and supporting collagen production.
Shea butter contains vitamins A and E, fatty acids, and antioxidants that bring rich moisture and support the skin’s natural healing processes.
Vitamin E supports the skin’s natural defenses, helps soothe redness and irritation, and promotes a smooth, youthful appearance.
Lavender essential oil is not just a lovely floral scent. It is a longtime skin care favorite for helping soothe irritation, supporting the skin’s moisture balance, and encouraging a glowing, even skin tone.
